"The Equestrian" is the largest equestrian bronze statue in the world, standing over 12 meters tall and weighing 17 tons. The statue depicts the 16th century Spanish explorer Don Juan de Onate on horseback and is located at the entrance to the El Paso International Airport. It is one of the twelve pieces of sculpture commissioned by the city for the XII Travelers Memorial, celebrating the historic Pass of the North that brought together Spanish and Native American cultures in the 16th and 17th centuries.
