Exploring the history of the many cultures that have called the southwestern region of the United States and Mexico home, Centennial Museum begins its story around 9,000 BCE with the hunter-gatherer tribes that once roamed the area. From displays of archaeological ruins uncovered by teams of researchers, the museum tells the story of how regional groups moved into a settled lifestyle, moving towards crop farming and herding. Its displays of pottery and other remnants are only part of the museum, as another sizable area is dedicated to ethnological history, with items and objects from groups including the Navajo, Apache and Tarahumara, and other exhibits cover the native animal and plant life of the region. Located on the campus of the University of Texas-El Paso, the museum is beside the Chihuahuan Desert Gardens.
